Spring Surprise?

Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 1:16 pm

Been almost two weeks since the last update.  Been taking a break from weather to focus on getting my home ready for summer.  Also, the weather has been relatively benign since the end of April storm cycle.  However, things are changing and a cold trough is likely to develop as we head into next week.

Warm weather on tap for Thursday and Friday with winds picking up on Friday ahead of a cold front.  Temperatures will cool rather dramatically for your Saturday down to the mid 60s in the valleys with 40s in the mountains.  Next week, we will see reinforcing shots of cooler air along with chances for precipitation.  Valley rain and mountain snowfall is looking increasingly likely.  GFS wants to bring rather significant amounts of precip to the region.  We could be looking at very healthy spring snowfall amounts by the end of next week if the current forecast verifies…

Snowbird will only be open weekends from now on, so be aware. But there should be plenty of snow left on high elevation north facing slopes for some May touring.  Still early so details are likely to change, stay tuned…
