Unfortunately, our record hot and record dry summer will continue through the end of July. High temperatures should be pushing 100F each day this week in the lower valleys. There are indications that we could get a monsoonal surge late this weekend into early next week. It will likely give us slightly cooler temps and a chance for afternoon thunderstorms.
Most locations have only seen a trace of precipitation over the past month. Vegetation, even in the mountains, is starting to really dry out. Mountain bike trails are as dusty as I’ve ever seen them. Wildfire danger is very high. Needless to say, we need rain and cooler temps. Let’s hope that the monsoonal moisture surge comes to fruition and that we see rain as opposed to just dry lightning.
