Friday Notes

Friday, February 26, 2016 at 8:21 am

Operating on very little sleep, so I’m going to just jot down a few quick notes.

  1.  Weak storm on Saturday in far northern Utah.  Perhaps some snow showers, little accumulation.
  2. Another, slightly stronger wave on Monday with additional snow showers for Northern Utah.  Perhaps a few inches accumulation.
  3. Ridge returns for middle of next week, see below image of ridging squarely over the area on 3/2…0226_0302ridge
  4. Pattern change looking like a good possibility March 5-10.  Still questions as to what kind of change this will be.  Remember, a pattern change does not guarantee storms, but when our current pattern is so conducive to ridging, any change IMO is better than no change.  Here is a look at the same image for 3/8…0226_0308troughYou can see troughing nudging into the area.

Latest GFS seems to keep all the moisture north…let’s hope it corrects.

12z Euro looks better than 12z GFS for next week. Euro has been more consistent past few days whereas GFS has been jumping around. CPC precip prob. forecast is now showing 6-10 days as normal and 8-14 days above normal. That’s interesting…maybe we are getting our M(o)JO back.
