Another dusting today, warm weather starts tomorrow…

Sunday, April 6, 2014 at 11:00 am

As expected, a weak wave moved through on Saturday and dropped 1-4″ on the area.  Today, the secondary wave is moving through and it is snowing lightly in many locations in the Wasatch.  Another 1-3″ possible… Just enough to soften up your turns on an empty mountain 😉

Warm weather for Monday-Wednesday.  Ridge will move west a bit late this week and allow for some cooler air and a chance for a couple weak systems by next weekend.  Right now it doesn’t look like much, but we’ll monitor the situation.  Until then, enjoy Spring in Utah!

Warm advection, nice upslope, and being in the divergent region of the jet played into the great skiing today…. From the forecast on Saturday from wasatchsnowforecast ”Popcorn snow showers will pop up again today with daytime heating–this time aided by a weak disturbance. Same thing will happen tomorrow.” Not a good forecast for Sunday… Warm advection leads to rimed snow particles (and lower visibility while skiing) and the jet leads to more stratfourm precip (normally in Utah). “Popcorn snow showers” in April happen when we are under the 500 mb cold pool (steeper laps rates during the heating of the day) not when the 500 mb cold pool is heading out….Anyways, it was a great day on the mountain!
